A Scythian kills the king; Mithridates takes the Bosporus

Around 108–107 BC the last Bosporan king, Paerisades V, agreed to cede his kingdom to Mithridates VI of Pontus. A Scythian named Saumacus revolted and killed Paerisades, but the Pontic general Diophantus returned with a fleet, took Theodosia and Panticapaeum, and the Bosporus became a dependency of Pontus.
