Sarazm
A proto-town on the Zeravshan and its "princess"

Sarazm, near Panjakent in Tajikistan, is one of Central Asia's oldest settled communities, with radiocarbon dates from 3900 to 2100 BC. Its people smelted copper, and a rich grave held a woman dubbed the "Princess of Sarazm", adorned with bracelets and beads of turquoise, carnelian and lapis lazuli.
