The royal palace of Toprak-Kala
A desert palace with a hall of dancing masks

In the 2nd and 3rd centuries the kings of Khwarazm lived in a three-towered palace on a raised platform amid irrigated fields. Sergei Tolstov's expedition uncovered painted halls, a shrine with reliefs of dancing women known as the Hall of Dancing Masks, and an archive of documents on leather.
