Rise of Tollan, capital of the Toltecs
The Toltecs become legendary ancestors to the Aztecs

Around 950 the city of Tollan (Tula) in central Mexico became the capital of the Toltecs. The warrior columns of its temple and its influence on Chichen Itza made the Toltecs legendary forebears in the eyes of the later Aztecs.
