Steppe herders on wagons whose genes most Europeans carry

From about 3300 to 2600 BC herders of the Pontic–Caspian steppe moved with huge herds in wheeled wagons and buried their chiefs in kurgans, in pits sprinkled with ochre. Genetics shows their descendants spread from the Atlantic to the Altai, leaving a sizeable share of ancestry in almost every European; they probably spoke Proto-Indo-European.
