Capital: Sarai Berke

The Great Horde was a Tatar khanate on the lower Volga with its capital at Sarai, the remnant of the Golden Horde after the Kazan, Crimean and other khanates broke away in the mid-15th century. Its khans Küchük Muhammad and Akhmat claimed the whole Jochid heritage and tribute from the Russian lands, but after the Great Stand on the Ugra River in 1480 Moscow stopped paying tribute for good. In 1502 the Crimean khan Meñli I Giray defeated the last khan, Sheikh Ahmed, and sacked Sarai.
