The Kingdom of Odoacer was the rule of the Germanic general Odoacer over Italy after he deposed Romulus Augustulus in 476. Odoacer ruled as king while nominally recognising the emperor in Constantinople, obtained Sicily from the Vandals and took Dalmatia in 481. In 489 Theodoric and his Ostrogoths invaded Italy on Emperor Zeno's behalf; Ravenna surrendered in 493 and Odoacer was killed.
