Thebans
Thebes was the leading city of Boeotia. After Epaminondas defeated Sparta at Leuctra (371 BC), Thebes was briefly the strongest state in Greece, but it lost its primacy in central Greece in the Third Sacred War with Phocis (356–346 BC). In 338 BC Philip II defeated the alliance of Thebes and Athens at Chaeronea, and in 335 BC, after a revolt against Alexander the Great, the city was destroyed.
