Egypt (28th Dynasty)
The Twenty-eighth Dynasty had a single pharaoh, Amyrtaeus, who rebelled against the Persian king Darius II, drove the Persians out of Memphis with Cretan mercenaries and in 404 BC proclaimed himself king of Egypt. Persia could not retake the country because of the revolt of Cyrus the Younger. In 398 BC Amyrtaeus was overthrown and executed by Nefaarud I, founder of the Twenty-ninth Dynasty.
