The Twenty-ninth (Mendesian) Dynasty ruled independent Egypt in 398–380 BC; it was founded by Nefaarud I, who overthrew Amyrtaeus and made Mendes in the Delta his capital. Pharaoh Hakor repelled Persian attempts to retake Egypt with the support of Athens and of the rebel king of Cyprus, Evagoras. In 380 BC it was succeeded by the Thirtieth Dynasty of Nectanebo I.
