The Battle of Mobei
Han cavalry crushes the Xiongnu beyond the Gobi
In the winter of 119 BC the generals Wei Qing and Huo Qubing, sent by Emperor Wu, led armies across the Gobi into the heart of the Xiongnu realm. Huo Qubing routed the enemy, held victory rites in the Khentii Mountains and chased the Xiongnu as far as Lake Baikal; the steppe lost men and millions of livestock.
