Battle of Wayna Daga
Ahmad Gragn's death saves Christian Ethiopia
On 21 February 1543 the army of the Ethiopian emperor Gelawdewos, with a band of Portuguese musketeers, defeated the forces of the Adal Sultanate near Lake Tana. Imam Ahmad Gragn, who had conquered almost all of Ethiopia in 14 years, was killed in the battle, and his realm soon fell apart.
