The founding of Silla
The kingdom that will unite Korea seven centuries later

According to Korean chronicles, in 57 BC the semi-legendary Hyeokgeose became the first ruler of Seorabeol in south-eastern Korea, the future Silla. Seven centuries later Silla united most of the peninsula, and its capital Gyeongju was one of the largest cities in the world; the kingdom lasted until AD 935.
