Funan and the port of Óc Eo
A Roman coin of Antoninus Pius turned up in the Mekong delta
Funan, the earliest known state of Southeast Asia, flourished from the 1st to the 6th century. Its port of Óc Eo linked India and China, trading beads, gold and spices, and archaeologists found a Roman medallion of Antoninus Pius there. Most of what we know of Funan comes from the reports of 3rd-century Chinese envoys.
