Wang Geon founds Goryeo
The new kingdom will unite Korea and give it its name

In 918 the general Wang Geon overthrew Gung Ye, ruler of Taebong, and proclaimed the state of Goryeo with its capital at Gaegyeong. Silla submitted to him in 935, and in 936 he defeated Later Baekje and united the peninsula; the Western name Korea comes from Goryeo.
