The start of a thousand years of Chinese rule in northern Vietnam

Emperor Wu sent armies against Nanyue, a kingdom covering southern China and northern Vietnam. In 111 BC its capital Panyu fell and its lands became Han commanderies. For northern Vietnam it began more than a thousand years of Chinese rule, thrown off only in 938.
