Mausoleum at Halicarnassus
King Mausolus's tomb gave every mausoleum its name

Artemisia, widow of the Carian ruler Mausolus, completed his tomb about 45 metres tall: a high podium, a colonnade, a stepped pyramid and a chariot on top, with reliefs by the best Greek sculptors. The wonder stood for almost 1,800 years until earthquakes ruined it and the Knights Hospitaller used its stones for their castle. Mausolus's name became the word mausoleum.
