Murder of Hypatia
A Christian mob murders the famous woman philosopher

In March 415 a Christian mob in Alexandria dragged Hypatia — mathematician, astronomer and head of the Neoplatonist school — from her carriage and killed her in a church. Her death became a symbol of the end of ancient learning, though the schools of Alexandria carried on after her.
