Navoi defends the Turkic language
A poet argues Turkic can rival Persian as a literary tongue
Alisher Navoi, vizier and friend of the Timurid sultan Husayn Bayqara, wrote in Persian too, but made Chagatai Turkic his life's cause. In 'The Judgement of Two Languages' he cited finely shaded Turkic words and verbs that Persian lacks; Uzbeks regard him as the founder of their literature.
