Capture of Smolensk
Vasili III takes a city Lithuania had held for 110 years

In the summer of 1514, after a third siege, Smolensk surrendered to the army of Vasili III; the city had been Lithuanian since 1404. Two months later a Polish–Lithuanian army routed the Russians at Orsha but could not retake Smolensk, which stayed Russian until 1611.
