The siege of Gurganj
The Mongols drown Khwarazm's capital in the Oxus

The Khwarazmian capital held out against the Mongols for months, one of the longest sieges of the war, partly because Genghis Khan's sons Jochi and Chagatai quarrelled over the siege. After taking it in spring 1221 the Mongols broke the dams and let the Oxus flood the city.
