Suyab, seat of the Western Turkic khagans
A khagan in green silk receives a Chinese pilgrim
Around 630 the monk Xuanzang met Tong Yabghu Qaghan at the Sogdian town of Suyab, wearing a green silk robe, his hair loose, surrounded by 200 officers in brocade. A Chinese fort later stood here, and tradition holds that the poet Li Bai was born in Suyab in 701.
