Stephen of Perm creates the Old Permic alphabet
An alphabet so the Komi could worship in their own tongue

Around 1372 the monk Stephen, later Bishop of Perm, devised an alphabet for the Komi language from Greek and Cyrillic letters and local clan marks. Service books were translated into it, and the Komi were baptised in their own language. It is one of the oldest scripts of any Finno-Ugric people.
