Founding of Joseon
A dynasty that would rule Korea for over 500 years

In 1392 General Yi Seong-gye overthrew the last ruler of Goryeo and founded a new dynasty, which soon named the country Joseon. Two years later the capital moved to Hanyang, today's Seoul. The state was built on Neo-Confucian lines with civil-service examinations, and lasted until 1897, with the Yi dynasty reigning until Japan's annexation in 1910.
