Council of Constance
A council ends the schism and burns Jan Hus

Convened at Emperor Sigismund's urging, the council deposed or forced the abdication of three rival popes and elected Martin V in 1417. The Czech preacher Jan Hus, who came under the emperor's safe-conduct, was condemned as a heretic and burned in 1415.
