Timur sacks Delhi
The Delhi Sultanate never recovered from the sack

On 17 December 1398 Timur defeated Sultan Mahmud Tughluq outside Delhi despite his war elephants, and the city was plundered and laid waste for days. Timur left, taking craftsmen to Samarkand, and the Delhi Sultanate broke up into independent kingdoms.
