The Qarmatians steal the Black Stone
A radical sect raids Mecca during the Hajj
The Qarmatians, an Ismaili sect that had built a state in Bahrain, stormed Mecca during the Hajj under Abu Tahir al-Jannabi. They killed thousands of pilgrims and carried the Black Stone away from the Kaaba. It was returned only in 951.
