Crusaders gain a foothold at the mouth of the Daugava
Bishop Albert of Buxhoeveden moved his see to the mouth of the Daugava and founded the town of Riga, and a year later the Order of the Sword Brothers. From here the German crusaders conquered the Livs, Latgalians and Estonians within three decades.
