Sayano-Shushenskaya dam disaster
A turbine bursts out and floods Russia's largest power plant

On 17 August 2009, at the Sayano-Shushenskaya plant on the Yenisei, Russia's largest power station, water tore turbine No. 2 from its seat and flooded the turbine hall. 75 people were killed. The cause was found to be fatigue failure of the studs holding the turbine cover, which had vibrated excessively for years.
