2010 clashes in southern Kyrgyzstan
Two months after Bakiyev's fall, violence engulfs the south
In April 2010 protests in Bishkek ousted President Bakiyev, and in June clashes between Kyrgyz and Uzbeks broke out in Osh and Jalal-Abad. An international commission counted about 470 dead, most of them Uzbeks; hundreds of thousands fled their homes, about 100,000 temporarily into Uzbekistan. International and Kyrgyz national commissions differ on who was to blame.
