The amber panels were made for the Prussian king, but in 1716 Frederick William I gave them to Peter I to seal an alliance against Sweden. In 1941 the Nazis took the room to Königsberg and its fate is still unknown. A replica took 24 years and opened in the Catherine Palace in 2003.
