Ming China conquered Đại Việt in 1407. In 1418 the landowner Lê Lợi raised a revolt at Lam Sơn and waged a guerrilla war for ten years. After the Ming armies were routed at Chi Lăng in 1427, the Chinese withdrew, and Lê Lợi became emperor, founding the Later Lê dynasty.
