A wave of uprisings sweeps across Europe
The February Revolution in Paris toppled King Louis Philippe and set off uprisings across France, the German states, the Austrian Empire and Italy. Most were crushed, but serfdom was abolished in several lands and liberalism and nationalism became leading forces of the age.
