Treaty of Turkmenchay
Persia loses Erivan and Nakhchivan; the border moves to the Aras

The treaty ended the Russo-Persian War of 1826–1828. Qajar Iran ceded the khanates of Erivan and Nakhchivan to Russia, paid 20 million silver rubles and granted Russian subjects extraterritorial rights. Alexander Griboyedov took part in the talks; a year later, as envoy, he was killed when a mob stormed the Russian mission in Tehran.
