Silla unifies Korea
Tang's ally ends up driving the Tang off the peninsula
Allied with Tang China, the kingdom of Silla destroyed its rivals, Baekje in 660 and Goguryeo in 668. When the Tang tried to take over the whole peninsula, Silla turned on its former ally and by 676 had driven the Tang armies out. For the first time most of Korea was ruled by a single state, with its capital at Gyeongju.
