Habsburg king murdered by his own nephew, John the Parricide

1255 – 1308 · 53 years · Vienna · Europe

Reign: 1298 – 1308 (Holy Roman Empire & Austria)

Son of Rudolf I and duke of Austria, he became king after defeating Adolf of Nassau. He strengthened royal power but in 1308 was murdered by the River Reuss by his disinherited nephew John; Swiss tradition sets the William Tell legend in his reign.
