Anschluss
German troops march in and Austria joins the Reich
Chancellor Schuschnigg called a plebiscite on independence but resigned under threat of invasion, and on 12 March 1938 the Wehrmacht entered Austria unopposed. The next day it was declared part of Germany, and an April plebiscite under Nazi control gave 99.7% in favour.
