Atomic bombing of Hiroshima
Nuclear weapons are used in war for the first time
On 6 August 1945 a US bomber dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, and on 9 August another on Nagasaki. Well over 100,000 people died, many later from radiation sickness. Japan soon surrendered, and the world entered the nuclear age.
