Artists rejected by the Salon give a new movement its name

In April 1874 Monet, Renoir, Degas, Pissarro, Morisot and others rejected by the official Salon exhibited in photographer Nadar's former studio. A critic mocked them as 'Impressionists' after Monet's Impression, Sunrise, and the name stuck.
