Rise of the Khanate of Kazan
Ulugh Muhammad, ousted from the Horde, settles on the Volga

Khan Ulugh Muhammad, driven out of the Golden Horde, established himself in Kazan in the late 1430s, on the lands of former Volga Bulgaria. The Khanate of Kazan became one of the Horde's successor states and for over a century fought Moscow or depended on it, until Ivan the Terrible took Kazan in 1552.
