Khojaly massacre
The deadliest killing of civilians in the Karabakh war

On 25–26 February 1992 Armenian forces, with elements of the CIS 366th Regiment, captured Khojaly; residents fleeing the town were shot on the way. Human Rights Watch counted at least 161 civilian dead; Azerbaijan gives 613. The Armenian side largely disputes responsibility, citing a humanitarian corridor and the actions of Azerbaijani forces.
