Legendary founding of Kyiv
The chronicle names Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv as the city's founders
The Primary Chronicle says the city on the Dnieper was founded by three brothers — Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv — with their sister Lybid, and named after the eldest. The chronicle gives no year: 482 was chosen for the celebration of Kyiv's 1,500th anniversary in 1982.
