Oleg's campaign against Constantinople
A shield on the gates of Constantinople: a chronicle legend

According to the Primary Chronicle, in 907 Prince Oleg sailed on Constantinople with two thousand boats, extracted a huge tribute and nailed his shield to the city gates. Byzantine sources are silent about the raid, but the treaty of 911 confirms that the Rus' won favourable trading terms.
