Great Drought and the Pueblo exodus
A long drought empties the cliff palaces of Mesa Verde
Tree rings record a prolonged drought in the American Southwest from 1276 to 1299. By 1300 the Ancestral Puebloans had left the cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde and moved south, in the same years Marco Polo served at Kublai Khan's court.
