Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi
Timur raises a giant dome over a Sufi's grave and never finishes

Timur ordered a mausoleum over the grave of the 12th-century Sufi poet Khoja Ahmed Yasawi. Its 18-metre dome was among the largest in Central Asia, but work stopped when Timur died in 1405 and the main portal was never faced. Now a UNESCO site, it later saw Kazakh khans proclaimed and buried.
