Young Turk Revolution
Conspirator officers force the sultan to restore the constitution

In summer 1908 officers of the secret Committee of Union and Progress mutinied in Macedonia. Fearing an army revolt, Abdul Hamid II restored the 1876 constitution on 24 July amid public jubilation. A year later the sultan was deposed, and power gradually passed to the committee's leaders, Enver, Talaat and Djemal.
