Former colonies speak to the world on their own terms

In April 1955 delegates from 29 Asian and African countries, most of them recently freed from colonial rule, met in Bandung. Among them were Sukarno, Nehru, Zhou Enlai and Nasser. The conference adopted ten principles of peaceful coexistence and condemned colonialism; the Non-Aligned Movement grew out of it.
