Greco-Turkish War
A Greek drive into Anatolia ends in the loss of Smyrna
In May 1919 Greek troops landed at Smyrna and pushed into Anatolia, but in 1921 Mustafa Kemal's army stopped them on the Sakarya and in September 1922 took Smyrna. Under the Treaty of Lausanne some 1.2 million Greeks and 400,000 Muslims were exchanged.
