Old khanates are redrawn into national republics

In 1924 the Turkestan ASSR and the Bukharan and Khorezm republics were abolished and divided along ethnic lines into the Uzbek and Turkmen SSRs, a Tajik ASSR within Uzbekistan and autonomous units for Kazakhs and Kyrgyz. Lines drawn then, including through the Fergana valley, largely became today's borders.
