Hamidian massacres
Mass killings of Armenians under Sultan Abdul Hamid II

In 1894–1896 Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, who had been calling for civil reform, were massacred; in places the killing spread to all Christians, including Assyrians. Estimates of the dead range from 100,000 to 300,000, and some 50,000 children were orphaned.
